How the last-letter game works

Word Chain is the last-letter word game: every word has to start with the last letter of the word before it. Play planet, and you need a word beginning with t. That rule takes ten seconds to learn. The reason it is a game is that your points do not go straight onto the scoreboard.

The decision you keep making

Flow is the bar at the top. It empties on its own, and every word puts a little back. Your points collect in the Pot rather than scoring, and the Multiplier goes up with each word you play. Bank pays you the Pot times the Multiplier, and that score is yours for good. Wait longer and the payout grows. Let Flow reach zero and the Pot goes with it.

Example chains

planet, tiger, rabbit, tomato, orange. Ordinary words are fine here, and usually better, because what matters is the letter you leave yourself. Words ending in e, r and t give you somewhere to go. Ending on x — or landing on y again once the easy y-words are spent — is how most runs stall.

What is worth playing

Longer words score more, and J, Q, X and Z score the most. Both also put more Flow back, so a good word buys points and time at once. Daily runs the same starting word and goals for everyone, and WORDY is a five-letter guessing puzzle rather than a chain.
